Ry::GrandChess

According to The Chess Variants Pages, Grand Chess was created by Christian Freeling in 1984 and is considered by some to be the best of the large board chess variants.

The board is 10 cells by 10 cells, has two more pawns than standard chess, is set up in an interesting fashion, and has two new and powerful pieces.

There is no castling allowed due the initial board setup and the Pawn promotion rules are drastically different than in standard chess.

I created this version of Grand Chess, Ry::GrandChess, to hopefully be an interesting and fun "change of pace" from standard chess.

Grand Chess has quickly become my favorite game on this site; mainly because of the defensive yet bloody action and the ability to quickly "turn the tables" in a game given the opportunity.

I hope you find Grand Chess to be both as fun and entertaining as I do.
